What We Do

The Calgary Multicultural Centre is running the following programs: Our services include:
  • Cultural competency training for corporations, government departments, and non-profit organizations
  • Providing information about Calgary's multicultural mosaic, cultural diversity issues and services for newcomers and ethnic minorities, through bi-monthly newsletter Culture Corner and semi-monthly News Bulletin
  • Liaisons and referrals between ethno-cultural communities & mainstream organizations
  • Organizational support for emerging ethno-cultural groups (workshops)
  • Multicultural events
  • Language classes

Cultural Competency Training (CCT)

We offer training and consulting services to companies and organizations that want to cope with and benefit from cultural differences:

  • Cultural Competency Audits for companies and organizations that want to determine how well they are managing cultural differences
  • Cultural Awareness Training for companies and organizations that want to understand and manage the way culture affects behaviour (at work, in negotiations, during interviews, when shopping, etc.)
  • Cross-Cultural Communication Workshops that develop skills and strategies for communicating with clients, employees, and co-workers from different cultures
  • Conflict Intervention for groups that are experiencing conflict rooted in cultural misunderstanding
  • Pre-departure Cultural Briefings for individuals or groups travelling to other countries on business
  • On-arrival Orientations to Canadian culture for individuals or groups arriving in Canada on business or study tours

Multicultural Resource Centre

The Multicultural Resource Centre (MRC) helps to bridge the gap between Calgary's ethno-cultural groups and mainstream organizations through information, referrals, and training.

Diversity Volunteer Program

The Diversity Volunteer Program (DVP) offers volunteer opportunities for newcomers and any interested person at our office. It also provides training to volunteers and placements in other Calgary agencies.

Multicultural Events

We organize, help organize and participate in events that promote multiculturalism. Past and upcoming events include:

Language Classes

CMC Language Classes - Spring 2007

The CMC is offering another Intermediate Spanish course. This 8-week course will take place every Wednesday from 5 to 6 pm, starting on May 16.

The Spanish teacher, Vicki Romay, is certified from the Cervantes Institute at the University of Calgary.

The class will be more than just conversational. It will develop skills and knowledge about the Spanish language as well as the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, to help anybody who would like to visit them for tourism or business.

Fee: $95 for non-members, only $45 for CMC members (annual membership fee: $25)
