Welcome to the Calgary Multicultural Centre!
The Calgary Multicultural Centre is Calgary's primary authority and resource provider for cultural diversity education and information. As a socially and culturally progressive organization, the Calgary Multicultural Centre focuses on communicating the positive impact cultural diversity has on the entire Calgary community.
Poetry Fest - Call for Submissions
Calgary Multicultural Centre plans to launch a series of community-based events for a Poetry Festival dedicated to promote international poetry and increase visibility of poets from various parts of the world.
The festival is an opportunity to engage Calgary’s communities, culturally diverse and multigenerational groups to hear the poetry by world class poets (they grew up) reading in exciting and atmospheric venues. This experience will be mixed with a range of performances including music and dance in harmony, linking poetry with visual art and to discover the part poetry has played in the lives of a diverse range of writers, musicians, poetry lovers, and people around us.
We would be pleased to have you as a partner for this initiative. You are welcome to propose famous poetry from your country - devotional, romantic, patriotic, that could be presented in the recital and poetry night.
We are targeting March 21- World Poetry Day as an opening date for the festival that continues with various events during the year hosting by different communities, libraries, schools, interested groups and organizations.
The primary benefits for this project are:
• Promoting diversity and valuing cultural identity.
• Promoting personal and community development
• Building dialogue, exchange and cohesion.
• Increasing knowledge about world poetry
